Helpful Horsemanship will help you build the skills needed to create a true partnership with your horse. Most of what we want to teach our horse, they already know how to do. They are born knowing how to stand, walk, trot, canter, and change leads. We just need to learn how to better communicate to them. We offer a variety of services to help you learn, whether you are just getting starting in horses or have been riding all of your life. Services available include workshops, lessons, problem-solving sessions, starting young horses, and equestrian facility planning.
Horsemanship Lessons: Currently offering lessons at our farm or yours focusing on horsemanship skills, on the ground and under saddle. We teach skills to create a safer and more effective communication system with your horse, regardless of your discipline of choice. Private or group lessons may be arranged. Horsemanship lessons are primarily for horses and their owners.
Cheval Ami: For those who are horse-less or those who want to learn with a horse who can teach them, join us for a series of classes tailored to meet your specific needs and desires. Whether you are looking to just spend time around horses or really want to sharpen your skills with a helpful horse, the Cheval Ami is for you.

Problem Solving/Help Sessions: Topic specific help sessions for you and your horse. Requests have included, but are not limited to: help with trailer loading, clipping, catching your horse, and having them stand quietly. Confidence building and desensitization to scary objects can also be addressed. These sessions are very interactive with the owner and horse, as follow-up is critical to the true resolution of a "problem".

Starting Young Horses: Help for the young horse to learn the basics such as leading, having feet cleaned and trimmed, learning to respect humans, as well as learning to carry a saddle and rider, and follow basic requests such as walk, trot, canter, stop and turn. How well your horse understands the basics of getting along in our domesticated world, the easier time they will have for the rest of their lives. Starting of young horses takes place at Dragonfly Farm. Horses are accepted in on a monthly basis with owner participation required at least once a week. The age of the horse and the experience of the owner will determine how long it will take to reach the desired goal.

Equestrian Facility Planning: Plan your facility for the happiness of your horse and for easy care taking on your part! With a Master Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning, and twenty years of working in equestrian facilities up and down the east coast, Julie Robins has the background and the experience to help you plan your dream facility that your horses will love. Consultations are available for renovating existing facilities and designing new ones with considerations for all aspects of equestrian operations.
